The authors are Caroline Fardig (It's Just a Little Crush - Cozy Mystery), Carolyn Ridder Aspenson (Unfinished Business - Urban Fantasy), and Angel Sefer (Spellbound in His Arms - Romantic Mystery).</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gRtpkuzTu2g/URyALhxrIWI/AAAAAAAABCs/xgN5UqXH4ao/s1600/Author+Pic.gif" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gRtpkuzTu2g/URyALhxrIWI/AAAAAAAABCs/xgN5UqXH4ao/s200/Author+Pic.gif" width="133" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Sarka-Jonae</td></tr> </tbody></table> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">1.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Me (Sarka-Jonae): How likely did you really think it was that you'd hit #1 on a Barnes &amp; Noble bestseller list?</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Caroline: Well, frankly, I mean I was honored and excited, of course, but I think I deserved it. Truthfully though, I never thought Carolyn would do it.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Carolyn: I knew for sure I could do it after Caroline did. I mean, clearly BN readers will buy anything.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Angel: I was sure I could do it after I saw Caroline and Carolyn hit #1. After all, every author thinks that her book is better than everyone else’s. But seriously, I'm really proud of all of us – although, I suspect they stayed up all night hitting that buy button…</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">2. Me: How does your family feel about your success? Super proud of you or are they already picking out what they want to buy when you win a Pulitzer?</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F4mMzFiTf5M/Ugqrpw0oTII/AAAAAAAABSI/jLkC1XQbwUo/s1600/caroline.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F4mMzFiTf5M/Ugqrpw0oTII/AAAAAAAABSI/jLkC1XQbwUo/s200/caroline.jpg" width="132" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Caroline</td></tr> </tbody></table> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Caroline: My daughter is psyched about my success. Everywhere we go, if someone doesn't give me the respect I deserve, she scoffs, "Mom, don't they know you're a famous author?" Angel, however, has used her success as an excuse to behave badly. There's a photo of her roughing up the paparazzi on TMZ.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Carolyn: My husband is out whoring my book to any and everyone. He wants me recoup his investment. Anytime I mention my book or how it's doing to my 14 year-old son he says, "huh?" He's a very involved child, can you tell? And my daughters, I'm not even sure they know I wrote a book!</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Angel: My little son seems more proud of his mom than anyone else, even though, I don’t think he quite understands what being a bestselling author means. As for Caroline’s comment, all I have to say is that at least one of us has paparazzi chasing after them…</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">3. Me: I've been on TMZ two times, once <a href="http://www.tmz.com/videos/0_ucrmw2xd/">my entire body </a>and once just <a href="http://www.tmz.com/photos/2010/11/26/3198-hold-my-hand-music-video-shoot/images/2010/11/26/81546-moonwalkertattoo-full-jpg/">my butt</a>. So, what's the next big accomplishment you all have your hearts set on? A book deal with a five-figure advance? A glowing review from the NY Times? A more shapely rear end in case TMZ comes around?</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Caroline: I’m going for the 2-fer. First, a five-figure advance…which should do probably just about cover a Brazilian Butt Lift. Who needs the NYT if I look like J-Lo from the back? I'll tell you one thing for certain though, I'll be getting a book deal first. </span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mW0yf6hGpmw/UnqeT4AvSVI/AAAAAAAABeM/oC9xBLybL4A/s1600/Carolyn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mW0yf6hGpmw/UnqeT4AvSVI/AAAAAAAABeM/oC9xBLybL4A/s200/Carolyn.jpg" width="150" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Carolyn</td></tr> </tbody></table> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Carolyn: I'm almost 47 and peri-menopausal, so I consider it a victory every morning I wake up. I consider that a big accomplishment for me. But I'd really like a six-figure advance, although I hear that just isn't done anymore. Very sad since I totally deserve it, so I guess I'll make due with a smaller one. I'm sending out queries to agents now. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they start fighting over me. One thing is for sure though, I'll get the book deal first. </span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Angel: I'm a bit of a review whore, so I'd take the glowing praise over the money any day. I'm not sure the NY Times would review a self-published book though, even one as great as mine. One thing I know, I'll definitely get a deal before Caroline or Carolyn.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">4. Me: I wish I'd gotten a six-figure advance too for Between Boyfriends. There was talk of giving me a parkour goat instead, but the damn thing kept running up the fence and escaping, so I never got it . I understand each of you are sending out query letters. Any responses yet?</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Caroline: Oh boy, have I. One agent called me at home. At first I thought I was being Punk'd, since my husband and Ashton Kutcher are now work buddies. </span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Carolyn: Well, I've gotten a few no's. At least they answered me. Nothing worse than being ignored. But I haven't heard back from the agents who like Caroline. I'm sure if they liked her book they'll be on the first plane out to talk to me about my book.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody> <tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pmVu8LMpNbU/UfxlkJW9ooI/AAAAAAAABRI/rMFBHKzVr0o/s1600/Spellbound+in+His+Arms+by+Angel+Sefer_html_440d17e0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pmVu8LMpNbU/UfxlkJW9ooI/AAAAAAAABRI/rMFBHKzVr0o/s200/Spellbound+in+His+Arms+by+Angel+Sefer_html_440d17e0.jpg" width="133" /></a></td></tr> <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Angel</td></tr> </tbody></table> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Angel: I'm actually getting ready to send out my queries next week. I just have so many accomplishments it's hard to fit everything into a one-page letter. It's like asking the Dalai Lama to fit all his wisdom on a napkin. I should be ready soon. I think I'll target the agents who turned Carolyn down first. I'm too nice to spell out why.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">5. Me: Angel, you're so funny. But seriously everyone gets turned down by agents. When you get your huge book deals, they'll be kicking themselves. Are any of you kicking yourselves for not self-publishing sooner?</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Angel: Honestly yes. I have such a gift and I should have shared it with the world sooner, but I was nervous that I wouldn't be appreciated in my own time. All jokes aside, I'm a humble person and it took me a while to find the confidence to put my work out there. My family has been wonderfully supportive. And my publicist too.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Carolyn: I think I released the book at the right time. There was a period when I stopped working on it, but then I had a dream about my late mother, and she told me to finish the book. I'm not saying she really visited me in my dream, but who knows? Maybe she did. I feel like since then everything has unfolded as it should.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Caroline: I'm glad that I didn't publish the book earlier because the first draft wasn't the best. I put a lot of work into rewriting it based on some great feedback from friends. It was the right decision to wait until the book was ready.</span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; line-height: 17px; margin-top: 10px; white-space: pre-wrap;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Thanks ladies for being here. Her new novel, <i>Dead Dreams,</i> sounds fascinating. Although labeled a Young Adult Psychological Mystery Thriller, I feel that the book&#39;s content and adult protagonist make this a story that could fit into the New Adult category for women aged 18 to 25 (consequently, the genre my book fits into). We hope that you check out <i>Dead Dreams </i>after reading this fun interview. Personally, I think the book&#39;s cover is absolutely amazing.</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Bjksj_clGb4/UlHBGWSBrJI/AAAAAAAABZY/C11WExbn_9w/s1600/Dead-Dreams-Cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Bjksj_clGb4/UlHBGWSBrJI/AAAAAAAABZY/C11WExbn_9w/s320/Dead-Dreams-Cover.jpg" width="213"></span></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Q. What is the inspiration behind Dead Dreams?</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="color: #1a1a1a;"><br></span> <span style="color: #1a1a1a;">Thought I&#39;d write about why I wrote &quot;Dead Dreams&quot;. </span><span style="color: #1a1a1a;">We&#39;ve all been there--at least those of us who are over 21 (and I am way past that age, for sure!)--revving to grow up, the world at our feet, the stars reachable. Wonderful ,wondrous future. But in wanting to get there, we forget to smell the roses, we trample on thorns and we get sorely poked and pricked, and alas, some of the barbs could be poisonous. Except for the Grace that watches over me, over you, (whatever you believe in, call it LUCK if you wish), all it might have taken for any of us was that wrong turn, that grabbing of something that looked good, and coupled with a strong desire to make it in life, we may be blinded and grab at the adder&#39;s tail. That is the story of Dead Dreams; of Brie O&#39;Mara, a good girl, someone who&#39;d never even gotten a traffic ticket, even a Miss Goodie Two-shoes. but, let&#39;s face it we can all be tempted, just a teeny-tiny bit. And sometimes that&#39;s all it takes before life spins out of control.</span></span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Q. The book&#39;s protagonist is an 18-year-old woman and this is the first of a series, I&#39;m wondering why you classified the book as young adult instead of new adult, especially since it appears to have some dark, thrilling content that might be difficult for the 12-17 age group?</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">This is an interesting question since I myself struggled as to how I should classify my books. With my first book &quot;Keeper of Reign, Book 1&quot;, I classified it as a &quot;Young Adult Adventure Fantasy&quot; and although I have had readers of all age groups enjoying it I have also had readers who claimed that their children --ages about 9-12 year olds--enjoyed it better than they did and the book should have been categorized as a &quot;Middle Grade&quot; fiction. Hmm… I researched the internet and found that traditional publishers have a wide range when they classify a book as a &quot;Young Adult,&quot; or a &quot;YA&quot;. Some say that books with a target audience of anything from 9 to 24 could be classified as a &quot;Young Adult&quot;. </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Personally, I think that&#39;s a wide age range. But that means that &quot;Keeper of Reign&quot; should be a YA, yet I had those comments about it being a Middle Grade and <i>not</i> a YA. </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">With &quot;Dead Dreams&quot;, the reader&#39;s age should be 14 and up, which again is the YA age range. Look at Hunger Games, or Twilight, which I felt dealt with even more adult themes but were considered YA books. &quot;New Adult&quot; is a more recent addition to the classification as Publishers try to carve out another niche in order to sell more books. So I am not sure if &quot;Dead Dreams&quot; would fall into that group--I guess it could.</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">But mostly, I wrote it for young ladies who are new to adulthood, or at least approaching that passage in life and I wanted to show that sometimes, it just takes one small, wrong move and an entire future could slide down a path a young person never intended.</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Q. Did you always want to be a writer or was their another career you were interested in?</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> I have always enjoyed spinning yarn for my friends, even from as young as eight years of age. But right after college, and before I had kids, I worked in advertising writing print and Tv ads and I really enjoyed copywriting. Some of my ads actually won awards. I don&#39;t even know where I kept those dust collectors! But that was ages ago. I now have five children, ages nine to nineteen. I have four at home now whom I still homeschool. It gets really hectic at our home. We also have many pets, so something is always happening. However despite everything that&#39;s happening around me I always think about different plots and story lines whenever i have the time--usually before I doze off after a long day. So, I guess I&#39;d always wanted to be an author. I never really one particular point in time when I made that decision. Writing is a part of life--of communicating. It&#39;s just a means to get the stories from my brain into someone else&#39;s head. Think about it, I put some squiggly things, called words, down on paper, and you read them, understand and react/think about these squiggles. And that&#39;s writing! Anyone who writes, in a sense is a writer.</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> Q. What do you do when you&#39;re not writing?</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Reading, of course! (Aren&#39;t I such a predictable person?)</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br> </span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Q. When can fans expect your next book?</span><br> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"></span><br> <a href="http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/10/october-25-interview-with-dead-dreams.html#more">Read more »</a><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BetweenBoyfriends/~4/AyUI_7fGccQ" height="1" width="1"/>Sarka-Jonae Millerhttps://plus.google.com/104167846028131015127noreply@blogger.com0http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/10/october-25-interview-with-dead-dreams.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464494996122367586.post-78232450067569860212013-10-22T21:52:00.000-07:002013-10-22T21:52:48.668-07:002013-10-22T21:52:48.668-07:00Caroline Fardig, Bestselling Author Back on the Charts ($0.99 SALE)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gzVGlNEinIg/UhBDtV7RrUI/AAAAAAAABUA/1OdzuDq3hzE/s1600/IJALC_Cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gzVGlNEinIg/UhBDtV7RrUI/AAAAAAAABUA/1OdzuDq3hzE/s320/IJALC_Cover.jpg" width="200" /></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Caroline Fardig is an inspiration to self-published authors. Residents are stunned when the body of a young woman is found strangled, and reporters at the Liberty Chronicle are thrilled, rather disturbingly, over the biggest news story to hit town this century.&nbsp;</span></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br style="background-color: white;" /></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">Lizzie Hart has even bigger problems. Lately, she can’t seem to concentrate on her job as copy editor at the Chronicle with the new hunky investigative reporter, Blake Morgan, swaggering around the office. How can a girl work when she’s using all of her energy combating Blake-induced hot flashes and struggling to repress the giggly inner schoolgirl that’s constantly rearing her dorky head? It’s a good thing that Blake barely knows Lizzie exists.&nbsp;</span></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br style="background-color: white;" /></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">After an odd string of events, however, Lizzie begins to wonder if Blake is really as fabulous as she has fantasized. When Lizzie and Blake find a co-worker dead, Blake’s personality changes completely—and not in a good way. Even though the police rule the death as an accident, Lizzie immediately suspects foul play and senses a connection to the recent murder. She is determined to bring the killer to justice, but is having some trouble getting her Nancy Drew on thanks to the pesky stalker she’s picked up—Blake Morgan. Wait, didn’t she want him to follow her around and pay attention to her? Not like this. Boy, is she wrong! From the very first practice, Shannon and Sam get sucked into a mad world of rigged try-outs, professional coaches, and personal hitting instructors. But it's the crazy, competitive parents who really make Shannon's life miserable. Their sons are all the second coming of Babe Ruth, and Sam isn't fit to fetch their foul balls. Even worse, Shannon's best friend Jennifer catches the baseball fever. She schemes behind the scenes to get her son Matthew on the town's best baseball team, the Saints. As for Sam? Sorry, there's no room for him! Sam winds up on the worst team in town, and every week they find new and humiliating ways to lose to the Saints. And the action off the field is just as hot. Shannon finds herself falling for the Saints' coach, Kevin. But how can she date a man who didn't think her son was good enough for his team ... especially when the whole baseball world is gossiping about them? Sam winds up on the worst team in town, and every week they find new and humiliating ways to lose to the Saints.&nbsp;</span><br style="background-color: white;" /><br style="background-color: white;" /><span style="background-color: white;">And the action off the field is just as hot. Shannon finds herself falling for the Saints’ coach, Kevin. But how can she date a man who didn’t think her son was good enough for his team … especially when the whole baseball world is gossiping about them? Even Shannon’s ex-husband David gets pulled into the mess when a randy baseball mom goes after him. As Sam works to make friends, win games and become a better baseball player, Shannon struggles not to become one of those crazy baseball parents herself. In this world, it’s not about whether you win, lose, or how you play the game… it’s all about KEEPING SCORE.</span></span><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></span> <br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FMqhMlt6Tek/Ule1Kqumg8I/AAAAAAAABZ0/dNihfuIg1XI/s1600/%237+%2320+%2322+Oct+11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FMqhMlt6Tek/Ule1Kqumg8I/AAAAAAAABZ0/dNihfuIg1XI/s400/%237+%2320+%2322+Oct+11.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></span><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BetweenBoyfriends/~4/jeSI542v7ps" height="1" width="1"/>Sarka-Jonae Millerhttps://plus.google.com/104167846028131015127noreply@blogger.com0http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/10/chick-lit-author-cracks-amzon-top-10.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464494996122367586.post-82000402659895568552013-10-10T22:49:00.000-07:002013-10-10T22:49:36.783-07:002013-10-10T22:49:36.783-07:00Paranormal Romance Novel "Arielle Immortal Awakening" Chosen as Reviewers' Pick<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pf0c6UaQls8/UW5pdQUqKWI/AAAAAAAABIk/Z1ms8tzhe_E/s1600/Immortal_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pf0c6UaQls8/UW5pdQUqKWI/AAAAAAAABIk/Z1ms8tzhe_E/s200/Immortal_1.jpg" width="130" /></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">BookRooster.com, a service that connects reviewers with books in need of reviews, periodically chooses books as Reviewers' Picks based on reviewer feedback. Even&nbsp;writing about a niece, it'd be interesting to know how she keeps her&nbsp;content fresh and unique while being true to the inspiration."</i></span></div> <div align="JUSTIFY" style="widows: 136;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="color: black;">This is such a wonderful question. I’m so glad I didn’t ask it of myself before I started writing or I would have been terrified to start. Yes, there are so many current takes on Holmes. I was weaned on Basil Rathbone, teethed on Jeremy Brett, and found inner peace with Robert Downey, Jr. I think the BBC show is lovely and don’t like Elemental very much. I’ve actually never read another Holmes “pastiche” of any sort. My late brother was a Holmes fan, and one of the last chats we had was about Holmes being brought back to life by Conan Doyle. </span> </span></div> <div align="JUSTIFY" style="widows: 136;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="color: black;">Because my heroine is actually </span><span style="color: black;"><i>not </i></span><span style="color: black;">the niece of Sherlock Holmes, but actually a bit off at times (thanks in part to a mild opiate habit), I didn’t have to worry terribly about the man himself. Well, he does make a fantasy appearance, but it is certainly drawn right from Conan Doyle himself. It’s Conan Doyle who becomes an actor in this book, and especially in the sequel. I’m not sure how many folks have made him a fictional character. It’s a bit inside out, you see. </span> </span></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <br /> <div align="JUSTIFY" style="widows: 136;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="color: black;">Lillian Holmes is isolated, brilliant, and a bit delusional. She fantasizes she is Holmes’ niece, fantasizes about becoming a detective, in an era when to do so would have been </span><span style="color: black;"><i>verboten</i></span><span style="color: black;"> for a lady. In that way, she’s a bit stuck in what we typically consider adolescent behavior—trying to become like a character in a book - be it reading Pride &amp; Prejudice for the 100</span><span style="color: black;">th</span><span style="color: black;"> time, or wanting to be Dr. Who’s next companion. So she is prone to quoting Holmes, and trying to turn her girlfriend into Watson, but our hero knocks a bit of sense into her…well, after threatening her life.</span></span></div> <div align="JUSTIFY" style="widows: 136;"> <span style="color: black; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><strong>Excerpt:</strong><span style="color: blue;"><u><a href="http://authoressentials.virtualwritersinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Lillian-Holmes-the-Leaping-Man-Excerpt.pdf"><b> Lillian Holmes &amp; the Leaping Man </b></a></u></span> </span><br /> <strong><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">At the cusp of the twentieth century, an heiress turned detective enters a world of deception and danger and must learn to trust her nemesis with both her life and her love.</span></strong><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Tormented by a tragic past, Miss Lillian Holmes nonetheless found the strength to go on, to become the greatest female detective of her time. To make her uncle proud. Except…he was not truly her uncle. Sherlock was a fictional character, and Lil was less a true detective than a sheltered twenty-six year old heiress with taste for mystery…and&nbsp; morphine. But then she saw him. Leaping from her neighbor’s second-story window, a beautiful stranger. With the recent murders plaguing Baltimore, here was a chance to&nbsp; reveal the truth.</span><br /> <div align="JUSTIFY" style="widows: 136;"> </div> <h1 class="western"> </h1> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Except, the Leaping Man was far more than he seemed. She started her academic life as a theater major, but when she learned she couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag she turned to archaeology, another love. She earned her degree at Indiana University, summered on digs in Greece and England, landed a gig in New Jersey, and eventually went into nonfiction publishing. Her third career is as a bureaucrat at a university. She is married to a photographer and has two cats. Eventually she hopes to retire to a small cabin, with the same husband and more cats.</span><br /> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Ciar is not one of those authors who dreamt of writing since childhood. She took up virtual pen on a dare in mid-life and forgot to stop. She loves reading just about anything, but especially nonfiction. Some of her favorite novelists are Mark Twain, E.L. Doctorow, Roger Zelazney, and yes, Nora Roberts. When she¹s not reading or writing, she loves to knit, to study all things Major League Baseball, and to jog.</span><br /> <br /> <ul> <li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Website: <span style="color: blue;"><u><a href="http://www.ciarcullen.com/" target="_blank"><b>www.ciarcullen.com</b></a></u></span></span><br /> </li> <li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Blog: <span style="color: blue;"><u><a href="http://www.ciarcullen.wordpress.com/" target="_blank"><b>www.ciarcullen.wordpress.com</b></a></u></span></span><br /> </li> <li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Facebook: <span style="color: blue;"><u><a href="http://www.facebook.com/ciar.cullen" target="_blank"><b>www.facebook.com/ciar.cullen</b></a></u></span></span><br /> </li> <li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Twitter: <span style="color: blue;"><u><a href="http://www.twitter.com/Ciar_Cullen" target="_blank"><b>www.twitter.com/Ciar_Cullen</b></a></u></span></span><br /> </li> </ul> <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BetweenBoyfriends/~4/3wEerzBFmNo" height="1" width="1"/>Sarka-Jonae Millerhttps://plus.google.com/104167846028131015127noreply@blogger.com4http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/09/guest-post-by-ciar-cullen-author-of.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464494996122367586.post-70541298156132863662013-09-25T02:17:00.000-07:002013-09-25T20:55:27.672-07:002013-09-25T20:55:27.672-07:00Juggling Responsibilities: Guest Post by Courtney Giardina <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0Ghw9K7-eM4/UkKp4ak7zwI/AAAAAAAABYk/MY78WG35sCs/s1600/cover+for+web+final.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0Ghw9K7-eM4/UkKp4ak7zwI/AAAAAAAABYk/MY78WG35sCs/s320/cover+for+web+final.jpg" width="200"></a></div> Courtney Giardina is dropping by the Between Boyfriends blog to talk about juggling responsibilities. I know that I have a difficult time working on my next book while running my PR business, writing health articles, and making time for my other interests. Courtney has a couple of unique responsibilities, but the same issues as the rest of us. However, you can work your writing into a challenging schedule.<br> <br> Welcome, Courtney!<br> <br> All of us have dreams and for most of us, they will always be dreams. Truth is though they don’t have to be, you just have to let go of the fear of failing and take the leap. I spent over twenty years doing the things I thought I was supposed to do because that is what people expected of me. But over the last couple of years I finally started living for myself. I became an actress and landed the lead role in a few independent films, I wrote my debut novel and just finished my second one. On top of that I coach middle school cheerleading and hold down a full time job. How in the world can you possibly do all that and still keep your sanity intact you ask? I’ll tell you how, I make the time for the important things in my life. Does that sometimes mean making sacrifices? Yes, but for me they are worth it.<br> <br> While my friends are out sipping cocktails on a Friday night, I’m at home with the TV turned off, music on low, cell phone on vibrate and Facebook closed typing away. Before I know it, it’s almost midnight and I was able to get in a couple thousand words in the time it took my friends to down three martinis. Sure I want to go out on a Friday night after a fifty hour work week between coaching and my real job, but if I did, I wouldn’t get any writing done and for me, seeing my name on the front of a book cover and reading reviews of the impact it had on my readers is worth a lot more than any night on the town. <br> The phone calls on a Saturday morning I get when it’s 80 degrees in June to come and hang out by the pool. Man, I wish I could accept, but I have to film that day. My weekend, my free day, it’ll be spent in front of the camera; reciting lines take after take in the unbearable southern heat. But, after that 8 or 10 hour day, when I get home exhausted and curl up into bed, I fall asleep with a smile on my face because for that small moment in time, I was an actress. <br> <br> <a href="http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/09/juggling-responsibilities-guest-post-by.html#more">Read more »</a><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BetweenBoyfriends/~4/h2yArenRcIg" height="1" width="1"/>Sarka-Jonae Millerhttps://plus.google.com/104167846028131015127noreply@blogger.com2http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/09/juggling-responsibilities-guest-post-by.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2464494996122367586.post-87084603157310463982013-09-23T00:22:00.000-07:002013-09-23T00:23:51.242-07:002013-09-23T00:23:51.242-07:00Congrats Ruth Mancini on Your Book Deal<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SBuIb38OgLI/UiMLVaz4KNI/AAAAAAAABVs/xwm8v0WYUn4/s1600/Swimming+Upstream.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SBuIb38OgLI/UiMLVaz4KNI/AAAAAAAABVs/xwm8v0WYUn4/s320/Swimming+Upstream.jpg" width="198" /></a></div> <span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I'm so very excited for my friend Ruth Mancini. As a teenager—being romantic in nature—I would read every romance book I could get my hands on. But the ones I loved best were the ones that had a spice of danger, adventure and mystery to them.</span></div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; position: relative;"> <span style="font-family: Georgia, &#39;Times New Roman&#39;, serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px;"><br></span></div> <div style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px;"> </div> <div style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px;"> </div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; position: relative;"> <span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I also liked mysteries and detective stories—Agatha Christie was my favorite author. The backbone of the story forms in my mind just by sitting at a beautiful spot and looking out to the sea or the mountains. I absolutely love creating stories. Sometimes, I create stories in my dreams and when I wake up I take down some notes and go from there.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div> <div style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px;"> </div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; position: relative;"> <span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> </span></span></div> <div style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px;"> </div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; position: relative;"> <span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">“Spellbound in His Arms” is very special to me. It’s not the first novel I’ve written, but it’s one of my favorites, which is why I published it first. The story evolves around this beautiful, old mansion. There are lots of beautiful estates on the island, but there is a particular mansion—the Achilleion, named after Homer’s hero Achilles in the Iliad—which triggered my imagination. Empress Elisabeth (Sissy) of Austria resided there, during her visit on the island. I’ve also read that the casino scene of the James Bond movie “For Your Eyes Only” was filmed there. The mansion is now acquired by the nation of Greece and is converted to a museum.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div> <div style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px;"> </div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; position: relative;"> <span lang="EN-US"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> </span></span></div><a href="http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/09/angel-sefer-talks-about-what-inspired.html#more">Read more »</a><img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BetweenBoyfriends/~4/KvFAsjDuTsc" height="1" width="1"/>Sarka-Jonae Millerhttps://plus.google.com/104167846028131015127noreply@blogger.com0http://www.betweenboyfriendsblog.com/2013/09/angel-sefer-talks-about-what-inspired.html
